DENTAL PROBLEMS in CHILD'S TEETH
Nursing Bottle Caries
This condition happens when the baby falls asleep while drinking a bottle containing a beverage that contains sugar, such as juice, soda or milk, which will make the teeth coated with sticky liquid or sugar for a long period during the child sleeps.
Gingivitis
Gingivitis is the simplest sign of dental disease that affects the periodontal structure. But because in the early stages it doesn't develop any symptoms, the disease is often overlooked. Inflammation of the gums is caused by the collection of plaque on the teeth resulting the gums to become red, swollen and over time can cause pain.
Dental Cavity
Dental cavities are caused by the acid that damages the enamel of the tooth surface. Once the acid passes through enamel, tooth decay can lead to the inner layer of the tooth that is more soft and vulnerable. If the hole reaches the tooth nerve, then it will cause pain. When cavities have developed, brushing alone is not enough to fix the problem. If tooth decay is not promptly treated, in advanced stages the infection will spread and damage the nerves, causing death of dental nerves, or even swelling of the gums around the teeth (abscess).
Gum Swelling (Abscess)
Swelling of the gums in the area of perforated teeth can be caused by the death of nerve tissue and the presence of tooth decay, which can produce foul smelling gases (gangrenous pulp) or liquid pus. An abscess can cause pain, fever and swelling in the affected area. On the problem of dental abscess in children, sometimes a pediatric dentist will give you antibiotic medicine to eliminate the infection.
Non-vital tooth
If your child's teeth become discoloured, it might require periodic monitoring by the dentist because it can become infected and eventually become non vital (die). Such infections can interfere with the growth and development of the permanent tooth bud that has not appeared. If there is an infection following a non vital discolored tooth, it is necessary to do a root canal treatment and restore the tooth with a crown to obtain good aesthetics
Stained Teeth
Teeth stains can be interpreted as many things. A non-permanent stain can be caused by brushing ineffectively or excessive consumption of colored foods. It could also be an early sign of cavity. These types of stains can be removed by the dentist. A permanent stain or discoloration can be caused by a certain antibiotic medication taken by the mother during pregnancy or by the child during their first years. This type of stain is permanent and can not be separated from the tooth structure.

Helpful Tips for Happy Kids
Scheduling the first appointment
Establishing a healthy relationship with dentist from an early age in absolutely essential to help kids become accustomed to dental visits and can help in the early detection of potential problems. We recommend that children are first checked by a dentist about six months after the first tooth appears. It is crucial that primary teeth stay healthy and are lost only by nature takes its course. Check with your pediatrician for advise.
Dental cleaning
Start cleaning your baby's teeth as soon as they appear in the mouth. Do "Two Plus One": Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day are proven methods to remove the dental plaque on your child's teeth. Use a child-size soft toothbrush and replace it every 3-4 months. Flossing is a technique to remove plaque between teeth where a toothbrush cannot reach.
Brushing for a child of age: Less < 2: brush with water 2-7: brush with pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste, if child can spit 7+: can brush on their own, still require supervision until age 10-11
Healthy diet
Do not give your baby or young child a bottle of formula, milk or fruit juice to go to sleep with, or to suck on for a long time during the day. The sugar in milk and fruit juice can lead to decay if it is in the baby's mouth for a lot of time. Healthy snacks and drinks are important for children. Try to keep away from too much sugar, especially between meals.
Teeth protection
Dental fluoride
When all primary teeth have come in (usually around age 212), your dentist may start applying topical fluoride. Regular use of fluoride hardens the tooth enamel, making it more difficult for acid to penetrate, and helping to protect from dental cavities.
Dental sealants
Tooth decay is preventable. As your child's permanent teeth grow in (usually around age 6) the dentist can help seal out decay by applying dental sealants to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. In some cases, sealants can even stop tooth decay that has already started. Sealants significantly reduce a child's risk for having untreated cavities.
Mouthguard
Injury to teeth can be prevented by using an athletic mouthguard when your child is involved in any sporting activities
Pick the Right Pediatric Dentist
Visiting the dentist shouldn't be a stressful experience for you or for your child. Consider taking your child to a dentist who specializes in treating kids. Pediatric dentists had undergone 2-3 year extra special education in communication and dealing with children, are trained to handle the wide range of issues associated with kids dental health. They also know when to refer you to a different type of specialist such as an orthodontist to correct the bite if needed. The primary goals are prevention (heading off potential problems before they occur) and maintenance (using routine checkups and proper daily care to keep teeth and gums healthy) in a friendly, anxiety-free environment.
